Sea Spire & Treehouse

In this project, my goal was to construct 2 spaces entirely out of 1 X 1 blocks in UE4, with textures and materials of my own making for each scene. These locations are based on locales from Cartoon Network’s own Steven Universe and Adventure Time.

Sea Spire

The Sea Spire is a tower in the middle of an ocean that has a strange gravitational pull surrounding it, causing the ocean’s water cascade downward in its presence. The water here is luminescent and shimmering, and I wanted to pursue this in the materials I constructed.

I started at the very base of the tower, and would work up from there. I first constructed a base blue water material for my 1 X 1 cube. From there I began using it to construct 8 walls of water around the Spire’s base.

I gave the ocean a depth of 10 cubes before spreading the surface. The Spire itself is much taller. Here I began bringing out my color palette. I set the sky box to a rich blue, and made new water materials to convey the glow from the water.
